In the first half of the nineteenth century Woolloomooloo was the most desirable suburb in Sydney. In fact, if you weren't lucky enough to live in the 'Loo you were probably living next to one of the disgusting brickworks or tanneries in the heart of the colony. Yep, back in those days Woolloomooloo had market gardens, sandy beaches and edible fish. Sadly in its latter history most of the colourful houses were bulldozed to make way for low cost housing... but I believe in this street, Cathedral Street...amongst the pubs and jacarandas... you can still glimpse the true heart and soul of the 'Loo.
